Cincon CHM150 Series - 150 W Medical DC/DC Converter with 2 MOPP, CF Rating, and 5,000 Vac Isolation

High Isolation and Ultra-Low Leakage for the Most Demanding Medical Applications

DC/DC converters used in medical equipment are subject to requirements that go significantly beyond those of general industrial power design. Patient safety depends on electrical isolation that reliably prevents leakage currents from reaching the patient contact point – and for cardiac floating (CF) rated applications, the permitted leakage threshold is particularly stringent.

Cincon addresses this with the CHM150 series: a 150 W isolated DC/DC converter in an industry-standard half-brick package, engineered to meet the electrical safety requirements of critical medical applications including cardiac-contact and patient-connected devices.

2 MOPP Isolation with 5,000 Vac Input-to-Output Rating

The defining characteristic of the CHM150 is its isolation architecture. The series provides 2 MOPP (Means of Patient Protection) isolation in compliance with IEC/UL 60601-1 3rd Edition, with an input-to-output isolation voltage of 5,000 Vac rated for a 250 Vac working voltage. This level of isolation is a fundamental requirement for equipment deployed in direct or indirect patient contact environments.

Leakage current is a critical parameter for CF-rated devices. The CHM150 achieves a leakage current of less than 10 µA - meeting the CF (Cardiac Floating) classification requirements for patient-applied parts connected to the cardiac region.

Electrical Specifications and Output Options

The CHM150 operates from a 2:1 input voltage range of 18-36 V DC with a 24 V nominal input, making it well suited for systems powered from 24 V medical DC buses. Three fully regulated single output voltage options are available: 12 V, 24 V, and 48 V.

Additional electrical characteristics include:

  • Efficiency up to 91.5%
  • No-load power consumption of only 10 mA
  • Remote On/Off function available in both positive and negative logic for flexible power sequencing
  • Overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), overtemperature protection (OTP), and undervoltage lockout (UVLO)
  • Operating altitude up to 5,000 m

Thermal Design for Conduction-Cooled Installations

The CHM150 is built around an aluminium baseplate optimised for conduction cooling, enabling heat to be transferred directly through the baseplate into a chassis or heatsink. This approach is well suited to sealed medical enclosures where forced airflow is not available or not desirable. The wide case temperature operating range of -40 °C to +100 °C supports deployment in demanding environments and ensures reliable operation across the full range of conditions encountered in clinical and mobile medical equipment.

Reliability and EMC

The CHM150 is designed for long-term reliability in continuous medical use. Calculated MTBF reaches up to 1,725,000 hours for the 24 V model per MIL-HDBK-217F - a figure that reflects the high-quality component selection and conservative thermal design applied to the series.

EMC compliance covers EN 60601-1-2 for medical electrical equipment electromagnetic compatibility, EN 55032 for emissions, and EN 55035 for immunity - providing a complete compliance foundation for medical product certification.
