Inission Power MHE Series, 2 kW Fan-Free High Efficiency Rectifiers for Critical Power Applications

97% Efficiency and No Moving Parts, Rectifiers Built for Demanding Environments

Critical infrastructure installations in power utilities, rail, industrial, and telecommunications applications demand more from their rectifiers than standard equipment can reliably provide. Long service intervals, continuous availability, and consistent performance over a 20-year or longer lifecycle are baseline requirements in these sectors. Fan-based cooling, the conventional approach, introduces a mechanical failure point that works against all three.

The Inission Power MHE series takes a fundamentally different approach. By eliminating the fan entirely and relying on natural convection cooling, MHE rectifiers remove the most common source of rectifier maintenance and field failure. The result is a 2 kW rectifier platform reaching up to 97% efficiency, with a calculated MTBF of 1,800,000 hours at 25°C; and a field-proven return rate below 0.2% across an installation base of more than 20,000 units.

FORTEC Switzerland offers the MHE series as part of its Inission Power portfolio, supporting customers from initial evaluation through to project supply.

Fan-Free Design, Why It Matters in Practice

In substation environments, process industry installations, railway signalling rooms, and telecom infrastructure, maintenance access is often constrained. Scheduled fan replacements and the unscheduled interventions triggered by fan failures are direct costs that compound over a long installation lifetime. Beyond the direct maintenance burden, fan failure in a rectifier system can lead to thermal shutdown at the worst possible moment, during a grid event or emergency condition when the system is under its highest load.

Natural convection cooling avoids all of this. With no moving parts in the cooling system, the MHE rectifier’s reliability profile is determined by its electronic components alone; and those are rated to an MTBF exceeding 1.8 million hours. The total cost of ownership over a 20-year lifecycle is substantially lower than fan-cooled alternatives of equivalent power.

Output Voltage Coverage from 24 V to 220 V DC

The MHE series covers the principal nominal DC bus voltages used across utility, rail, industrial, and telecom infrastructure in six standard variants:

  • MHE24-1500: 24 V DC, 1,500 W continuous, up to 62.5 A
  • MHE48-2000: 48 V DC, 2,000 W continuous, up to 41.7 A
  • MHE60-2000: 60 V DC, 2,000 W continuous, up to 33.3 A
  • MHE110-2000: 110 V DC, 2,000 W continuous, up to 18.5 A
  • MHE125-2000: 125 V DC, 2,000 W continuous, up to 16.7 A
  • MHE220-2000: 220 V DC, 2,000 W continuous, up to 9.3 A

All models share a single-phase AC input range of 85-300 V AC and a common operating temperature range of -25°C to +50°C, with IP20 enclosure protection and an altitude rating of 2,000 m. Modular parallel operation supports total system outputs of up to 80 kW from a single OPUS HE rack system.

Digital Control and System Integration

MHE rectifiers are fully compatible with the OPUS HE power system family and communicate digitally over a CAN bus with the VIDI master controller. The VIDI system controller enables centralised monitoring, alarm management, battery charging supervision, and system-level diagnostics across the full installed rectifier array. For simpler applications, MHE modules can also operate in standalone mode with or without battery backup, without the VIDI controller.

The front-cabling design of the MHE platform simplifies installation and maintenance access in rack-mounted configurations, supporting both standard 19-inch rack and custom enclosure integration.

Multi-Sector Certification for Global Deployment

The MHE series carries the safety and EMC certifications required for deployment across its target sectors:

  • Safety: EN/IEC/UL/CSA 62368-1; EN 50124-1 (railway insulation coordination)
  • EMC, Generic: EN 61000-6-1 / -2 / -3 / -4
  • EMC, Power Utility: EN 61000-6-5, surge level 2
  • EMC, Railway: EN 50121-4 / -5 (signalling and substations)
  • EMC, Telecom: ETSI EN 300 386
  • CE marked; CB Certificate; UL Listed; CSA; TÜV
